Computer Lab Instruction & Schedule
Ponderosa's Computer Lab instruction has several goals. First, every student at Ponderosa has the opportunity to learn computer science through a CS Fundamentals Code.org curriculum and robotics. Computer instruction also provides classroom support for the teachers by adding a technology piece to enhance or extended their classroom curriculum. In addition to coding and classroom support, technology instruction also focuses on building strong keyboarding skills. Students can practice keyboarding both at school in the lab and in classrooms as well as at home through an online keyboarding website (TypingClub.com). Next, Kindergarten through 5th grade students also learn the basics about how a computer works, and how to access and use their district provided Google Education Suite: Google Classroom, Docs, Drive, Gmail, Pages, Sheets and Slides. Everyone learns the basics on each program as they advance from K-5th grades so by the time they are ready to transition to middle school they can create documents, presentations and representations of data to show their understanding of their learning. Lastly, but very importantly, all students learn to be screenwise users of technology through digital citizenship and Internet safety curriculum designed to teach children the skills they need to be safe and smart online.
